that's not how that works. He went up for a shot, so the explanation was that the hand is a part of the ball when attempting a block or steal. If the ball was officially touched by the offensive player, no matter how it was knocked out it's a turnover.

hand can be “part of the ball” but the ball was still in contact with your hand last. if that’s the rule it doesn’t make it a foul and doesn’t mean i touched it last.

the hand is part of the ball only applied to shots. it doesn't apply to reaches while dribbling. that's why there are so many reach in fouls called per game.
