Both sides did terrible things, It’s in Zeta Gundam and Unicorn Gundam where I think Zeon was right in the sense of freedom and a say in government but the way they went about getting it wasn’t right. I think Zeta and Unicorn explains a lot about that especially Unicorn with laplaces box because in 001 UC the federation caused the explosion we see in the first episode because they knew that it would give spacenoids freedom. The federation knew they were to give zeon freedom because of the 16th article or 15th but since in 001 it got “lost” The federation would be guilty, embarrassed, and overthrown (kinda) if they were to give zeon the freedoms they deserve due to the 16th article. That’s why they tried to destroy laplaces box in the last episode of unicorn because now the federation is humiliated and they knew what would happen. But also considering Anaheim had a lot to do with this stuff to this just what I think.
