Peds Homecare nurse here. Calculate amount of ounces she requires. Let her set her own schedule. Some bottles will go better than others. If she is short by the end of day give rest by NG. Give meds orally!

Do every bottle feed and then only use the ng tube for whatever amount they don’t finish in whatever timeframe your nutritionists give you. My son was 15 minutes on the bottle and then tube the rest after that. It took about a month and a half post op to fully get rid of the tube.

Rowena Bennetts tube weaning book was a lifesaver for us. I cold turkey pulled it after my daughter’s first open heart surgery and she was taking full feeds within 10 days.

my son has a G-tube and heavily relied on it when he came home at 3mo but one day 4.5-5mo it just clicked for him and he started finishing his bottles! hopefully she figures it out fast

We did bottle feeds and then have whatever she didn’t finish through the NG. She started doing better at the bottles but seemed so bothered by the NG. We asked our doctor if next time it came out if we could try a few days without it and see how she does. So she pulled it out a week or so later and we kept it out and it’s stayed out ever since!! Still a lot of work but she gave us a goal for her mls in a day so we just try to hit that every day and she’s still gaining weight. We are also fortifying my breastmilk with a little formula 🫶🏼

When I was trying to wean Lucas off the tube when he was starting to get the hang of it and have more energy to finish his bottles. It was time to change the tube and instead of putting the new one in immediately I decided to let him try bottles without the tube in. And I said whenever he doesn’t finish a bottle then I will put it back in. He finished every bottle after that and so I never had to put it back in. Maybe he liked not having it there while swallowing.
