All women deserve this level of education when being presented with this option. Unfortunately a lot of providers say “it’s just a sticker” and then our babies are born and live with painful scarring on the scalp.

I was so against this because it looks scary lol but ended up getting it because my guy would NOT stay on external monitors. Ended up saving his life because his heart rate kept dropping significantly due to his cord being wrapped around his neck!

Wow this explains so much! I had one on my baby and I don’t think they even told me anything besides my baby needed it. I was induced at 38 weeks because my baby’s heart rate was misbehaving

My daughter had one placed on her head during my TOLAC and I also had a uterine catheter placed to monitor my contractions more accurately. It made me feel so much more comfortable knowing we had reliable data if there were any indicators of a uterine rupture! I ended up having a successful VBAC :)

I’m 35 1/2 weeks pregnant and he is still breeched! How do I get him to flip?? Or they’re talking about doing an ECV! And I heard it hurts so bad, is it that bad and is it mostly successful??

Doctor placed one of these on my daughter and told me it “goes in next to baby’s head”. She came out with a huge scar on the top of her head that got infected, caused a bald spot, and was never explained to us until a kind NICU nurse told us 6 days later.

I work in a high risk hospital. ~3500/yr. Have done L&D for 2.5 years. I’ve seen less than 5 scalps applied! They’re so useful when we need them.

My oldest had this. She’s 17 and now no scarring or hair growth issues. She did have a little scab when she was born

My son had one and we were told they couldn't feel it but he would SCREAM if anyone touched his head once he was born where the monitor was. I just don't see how accurately it can possibly be placed

I wish my Dr had explained it better to me. I was barely 1 cm dilated and had a horrific experience having it placed… for it to fall off 30 mins later….

I love how you said consent is needed for this, because with my first no one explained it to me and I didn’t consent. It was just done while the laborist and nurse chit chatted 🙃

I think the bigger issue people ahve with these is that sometimes medical personnel try to make things sound less scary rather then just throughly explaining. So they will tell a mom that it just"sticks or attaches" on the babies head, then mom finds out online that it goes in the skin and the dr didnt tell her that and then trust is broken

Can you explain why it’s bad for baby’s heart rate to not fluctuate? We hear a lot about it being too high or too low but not enough about it not fluctuating. I got a C-section with my first because baby’s heart rate was “sleepy” they said

i’m a midwife and i’ve always said if i needed continuous monitoring i would immediately want an FSE. i’d only want CTG if there were significant maternal or fetal concerns and at that point i’d want to be sure the data we were getting was accurate, plus i know i’ll want to be left alone during labour and not constantly touched to move the abdominal monitoring. so to me the small risk of scarring is minimal compared to my own comfort and maximisation of movement in labour

I had one!! Never ever could even tell where it was on my newborn. Also- I’m convinced he’s beautiful and perfect now because this thing picked up his distress and prompted us to change our plans ❤️

when I had my labor, I had a wireless fetal monitor. it was like stickers and was brand new in winter 2020. it was so awesome. I was able to move around

My hospital never told me they were doing this and only found out what it was from tiktok like 6 months pp. I don’t have a problem with it because I would happily take the extra monitoring, but it would have been really nice to know it was happening. My daughter had a lot of hair when she was born and they had to cut it off of her, but I didn’t know what it was when she born.

My first got this! He was decending so rapidly and I couldn’t stay still (labor was only 1.5 long so no epidural 🙃). If I’m being honest, I don’t remember consenting to it, BUT I really focused on making my self breath and not push (I was having Fetal ejection reflex at 7.5cm). So I didn’t know (or didn’t remember) until like a day later and I noticed a little dot on the top of my babies head and I asked my mom!

There was a moment during my labor where my son’s heart rate dropped and then wasn’t being picked up—the OB who came instead of my midwife wanted to put this on and he said it was a ”sticker” lol. He couldn’t get it on and then my son was fine, but later I found out what it actually looked like! I felt so uncomfortable 😂😭

we had trouble with my oldest staying on the external monitor, so we did an internal one. it got tangled in his hair and we still couldn't get accurate readings and he came out missing a chunk of hair, lol.
