Couldn’t agree more, my granny has vascular dementia and is a completely different person now than when I left. But she would of wanted me to go and see Australia, its the hardest thing to deal with sometimes

Honestly, I know it might sound awful but I am so "glad" my grandparents passed away in 2016 & 2022 because I was still home/in Europe and could say goodbye

So true. The anxiety I feel everyday and when my family don’t text me back for a while I automatically think the worst and think something has happened and they don’t know how to tell me. It’s so hard and no one really talks about it

My Granny passed away and I went back home for her funeral, only got back to Australia and then my Dad passed away exactly four weeks later and I had to go back home again! It’s the hardest saddest journey to make.

I was 3 months in Australia when I got the call my grandmother passed unexpectedly. Nothing hits harder than not getting that chance to say goodbye.

How long are you in Australia now ? Do you intend going home for a wee visit / holiday any time soon ?

That is literally the only thing stopping me, the ‘what if’ id never ever be able to forgive myself and it continues to haunt me😕

The side of my family I like, all live in Australia. I’ve reached the point where I have to start thinking about saving for funeral flights 😢 I saw my mum make that flight twice and it’s a long, lonely journey. That said, Aussie is amazing. Was there in Jan. You did the right thing.

I’ve got 9 siblings and I’ll miss a lot of life events but you’ve got to live your life too is the way I think about it cos if I didn’t do anything to stay around for their big moments I’d never do anything myself 😅

Hardest thing ever … I’ve missed so much even two deaths in the last year and one them only this week… life is short and better experience things when you have the chance if not your going to regreat

Initially I thought you were talking about being swooped by magpies… but seriously, I understand how hard it is to move away and make a new life. I have been here now for 15 years. Best move ever.

Your parents & grandparents live their lives in the best way and place that they could possibly live, you have to get out a set up a life for you and possibly your family to grow up in that’s the way I see it. You can’t sit around waiting for your parents & grand parents to die before you start living your life.
