It probably was supercooled and experienced rapid nucleation (just depending on where it was in the fridge). Other cans could have also been very cold but irregularities in that container may have caused the nucleation

maybe it was closest to the cooling vent thing? my fridge actually gets icy right there but the stuff in the fridge doesnt freeze its just that spot

It was in the frig where all the cold air comes in from freezer so it gets hot the hardest with freezing air

The wife had it in the freezer,forgot about it,then stuck it back in the fridge to let it thaw back out. When it exploded,she decided not to tell you,so she wouldn't have to clean it. 🤣

My fridge has extreme cold spots. I will put a 6pack in my cold drawer and the one can sitting over a specific spot will be semi-frozen.

someone put it in the freezer, forgot it, it became supercooled, they remember it, take it and put it in the fridge, makes a bubble, bubble is nucleus point, flash freezes, explodes.

The can was at the back were your fridge is coldest. This is a problem with medicine. I have a biologic that would be ineffective if is froze and I have be careful where I put it in.

was it closest to the cold air vent? a couple spots in my fridge freeze things so I avoid putting sour cream and things that can't freeze in those spots

So if your fridge is too cold (even just slightly below freezing), the Diet Coke can freeze, while most foods (like fruits, veggies, or even milk) don’t, because they have higher freezing points or larger thermal mass.

I don’t know what it’s called but sometimes when a liquids is close to freezing point and you tap it, it freezes over

if it was in the very back of the fridge move your stuff in the freezer away from the vents in the back

this happens to stuff in my fridge. there are a few specific spots that get significantly colder than the rest of the fridge. anything liquidy in those spots will freeze either partially or fully.
