Peace be upon you, the mercy of Allah and His blessings. As-salamu alaykum wa-rahmatu-Llahi wa-barakatuh. And if a Muslim committed shirk (and thus left Islam?), and then repented and returned to Islam, is it forgiven by Allah?

Answer is simple, you’re forgiven if you sincerely repent, but once you die in that state then how can you be forgiven for something you don’t believe in?

Muhsin :
Allah is the most forgiving doesn't mean that he forgives everything, but that he is the ultimate forgiver. When you repent, the sin is gone, Allah wipes the sin away and it will never be brought up in the future, ever. Even if you repeatedly commit the same sin over and over and repent each time, Allah will forgive you each time because he is the most forgiving. (Not saying that the video is wrong, but just giving an alternate answer)

But they do believe in Allah according to this verse “And most of them do not believe in Allah except while they associate others with Him (shirk).”

To all the wannabe muftis in chat, please understand the way the question is asked, he wasn’t asked “can shirk be forgiven?” But he asked “why” stating someone who’s upon shirk.

It’s like typing the incorrect passcode and expecting the system to let you in. Before you can even access anything else, you first have to initiate correctness, in this case shahada and believing in the almighty.
