Laden Autumn, here I stand :
I always feel bad for Colleen Moore who donated her filmography to the Met so it could be preserved, but they just sort of forgot about it and when she asked about it years later they're like "oops we never did anything with it" and the celluloid just turned to dust 😢. Large chunks of her career are just gone, no known copies.

don’t forget olive thomas! she was the first lady to portray a flapper on screen. she passed at age 25 due to accidental poisoning on her 2nd honeymoon in paris. her death is regarded as one of the first hollywood scandals. she was so beautiful and talented 🩷

Hollywood wasn’t exactly kind to women then (or recently, for that matter)..the fact these beautiful women made it as far as they did is remarkable🏆

I read Clara's biography. Unfortunately, she had a horrible family where her mother tried to 💀 her multiple times, one time waking her in the night with a knife before falling into an asylum, and after the mom died her father SA'd her. Despite this, her father accompanied her during her career (unhelpfully) and she took care of him financially, not being able to think badly of him. This family life was the biggest factor in her horrible mental health

Mary Pickford also founded the Motion Picture Relief Fund after a few of her friends died traumatic deaths. It’s a charity to help less affluent or troubled industry workers and actors with financial aid and assisted living! Still exists today!

I believe the ones who suffered with mental illness or alcoholism were used and abused by the industry just like some of these modern stars you hear about today.

sunset boulevard is one of my favourite films oat, and it exposes how hard was the transition between silent and sound films for the majority of silent stars, they where treated like gods in the past and then treated like dogs

my favorite thing about most these actresses is that they got fame, money, and then left silently or loved on to smaller things. I think more actors should do this, it's annoying seeing the same actors in everything.
