@zeezee25: i wasn’t always a wheelchair user ❤️🩹 before my chronic illnesses developed, i was a healthy child but over the years i’ve lost mobility and gradually lost my sports, physical activity, social clubs & the ability to work full time/attend school when i got sick again in early 2024, my life changed completely. i lost the ability to do exercise/gym/sports at all, and this was so difficult to accept. i still struggle to this day ☹️ i miss running, flipping, going to trampoline parks, seeing my friends at the gym, feeling the endorphins when exercising, feeling strong & just feeling physically capable but, i’m trying to reframe this and recognise that i HAVE gained some things from my disability too… ⭐️ resilience ⭐️ understanding & true friends ⭐️ forgiveness for myself ⭐️ confidence / not caring about standing out it’s never easy to adjust to something like a disability, but there are always good AND bad things to recognise and work through! focusing on these positives helps get me through the days when i grieve my old life so much that it hurts 💛 to anyone struggling with this right now, i hear you, i see you, i feel you. with time we can adjust & find joy in new places - keep going, we can do this!!! you are not alone 🫂 #disabled #selfacceptance #disabledcommunity #chronicillness #MentalHealth #chronicalllyill #longcovid #chronicfatigue #functionalneurologicaldisorder #fndawareness #wheelchairuser

My chronic illness has fully taken over me and it really does make you think about what you could do before and what you can’t do now but we have to keep pushing through life 🥰

I have a love/hate relationship with the "wheelchairs are freedom" thing. They are I know they are, mine has given me a ton of freedom. But they still arnt as freeing as when I was a child and had an ok body, it doesn't help me feeling like I'm missing out, like I'm missing a part of myself when I realise I can't go on hikes with my chair like I could when I was a kid

I miss gymnastics so much and also do many other things without pain and fatigue. I can’t even walk to somewhere where I want to go as I could before getting chronic illness😔

I feel like so many of us used to be so active, I did cheer, dance, gymnastics and was so involved in school, and now I’m lucky if I can even leave the house for anything other than doctors or the ER

I think of it less as a loss and more of past experience. it is hard not to visit again but there are things that time is now available to do. keep being as positive as you can 😸

This is such a powerful and heartfelt reflection. You’re not alone in this, and messages like yours remind others they aren’t either.

I miss playing badminton so much, I was told that I could've been on an official team, I haven't played in 8 years due to failed surgeries and IIH :(

This is so real though. The last time I tried a backbend, I fell flat on my back and instantly regreted even trying 😭

I hate when people say, why has your chronic illness become your personality, like I didn't want it to be untill it started affecting my physical health and strength 😔

I relate to this, sorry, I know it's not made for transgender people... But I miss so much doing sports, but I can't with those burdens on my torso... I know I'm able to fix it, so I feel guilty about sharing that... But it's just to say that I understand you all, that everyone should be respectful, mindful and gentle, not because you're disabled, but because you're a human after all. (Sorry, that was a looonng sentence haha). I'll always support anyone in need, or not. Love you all, no matter who you are. We're all one and living on this beautiful earth after all! Let's make it as peaceful and joyful as possible!

it’s definitely such a hard thing to navigate as so much is unknown, will I get better tomorrow? will I never walk without pain again?

You have still lost a part of yourself.
It's OK to grieve that.
