And she argues that because the prosecution say that abuse is not an excuse to kill, Leslie challenges that argument and ask the question about what about when the children who are abused, DO KILL THEIR PARENTS OR ABUSER! I think it’s a very valid argument because we are not in that person state of mind at that time. Abuse affects people very differently and at some point it can actually tip the victim over the edge where they believe that they do not have any other choice but to kill their abuse just to be free and escape. You can look up the statistics and I will make a post on it because the percentage is quite high with the amount of killings there are that are made by the victim of abuse. Being abused is crippling and it can seriously disturb your brain and your mentality where you may not have control over your actions and you can blackout it’s a coping mechanism and it’s a fight or flight. Lyle and Erik Menendez, are not homicidal maniacs, they are two victims who truly believed that they had no other choice but to do what they did there was so much fear and rage and panic, that they did not know what was going to happen and they both truly believed that it was either their lives or their parents lives at stake. let’s not forget that kitty Menendez had two loaded rifles in her closet upstairs, which he used to threat that she would use on someone very soon on numerous occasions. Jose was very good at manipulating and he controlled every aspect of his children’s lives. He wouldn’t even let them leave the house. That’s how much power he had over these boys. the defence never argued that the brothers actions are justified because they were abused but it can help you understand why the tragedy happened and what it can do to someone’s brain and mental state of mind.
