Peter Grossman will continue testifying today in the punitive damages phase of the Iskanders' wrongful death trial. The jury on Friday heard part of a phone call between Grossman and his wife, Rebecca Grossman, who is serving 15 years to life in prison for killing brothers Mark and Jacob Iskander while speeding and driving impaired in Westlake Village, California, on Sept. 29, 2020. The Iskanders' lawyer Brian Panish told jurors the Grossmans are trying to shield assets from the Iskanders. He asked Grossman on Friday about his decision to "disinherit Rebecca from everything." "And the reason you were disinheriting her was to avoid creditors, wasn't it, sir?" Panish asked. "No, sir," said Grossman, a nationally prominent plastic surgeon whose father founded the Grossman Burn Foundation. "Let's see what you told your wife when you all were talking on the tape recorded line," Panish said. In the call, Rebecca asks, "When are you thinking about putting the house up for sale?" "I would like to do it, honey," Peter says "I just don't know the market yet, you know? The real estate market and interest rates and stuff like that. I mean, again, if somebody came to me right away, I do it right away." Peter said he wants "to be a little bit more aggressive than I am right now, which is doing nothing, but I don't want to be impulsive." Rebecca asks, "Are you worried that Panish is going to try to come after it?" Peter says "he can't" but "he'll try." "There is no community equity anymore," Peter says. The recording ended and Panish asked, "You were worried about Iskanders getting to the money, weren't you?" "No, sir. I think it just said that I wasn't worried about what Mr. Panish was going to do. Rebecca asked me that question," Peter said. You can watch all testimony on my YouTube channel. The jury in Los Angeles on June 2 found Rebecca Grossman and Scott Erickson, who was speeding near her when she hit the boys, each liable for $176 million in compensatory damages: $8 million for past damages and $51 million for future damages for Mark Iskander, $6 million and $42 million for future for Jacob Iskander, $10 million to Nancy Iskander for past emotional distress and $25 million for future, and $6 million for past emotional distress and $28 million for future to younger brother Zachary Iskander. Peter Grossman is a defendant in the lawsuit because his wife’s SUV was registered in his name. #law #court #attorney
