Dalton Miller :
I kinda find this to be backwards. A sheriff is an elected official and is heavily influenced by voters. Police Chief can get stuff done the right way without having to worry about the ol good boy system.

That’s why I trust deputies more than police

The Sheriff, IS the most powerful law enforcement officer in the county. People do not realize the power a Sheriff has. My former Sheriff / Boss, stripped the BLM of their LEO powers and forbid them from carrying firearms within the county, due to cattle grazing rights, and us Deputies enforced his rules.

It’s actually flipped. Sheriffs are elected so they do things to stay in power. Chief isn’t worried about an election

Not completely true. The County Commision controls the Sheriff's budget and therefore controls the Sheriff. I was a Deputy Sheriff for nine years and witnessed it first hand.

Amen!! I worked for a PD and it sucked. You were told what laws you can and cannot enforce. I’m now a Deputy and I’m told to enforce any law that’s needed and stay within the policy and don’t violate anyones constitutional rights. It very simple now.

The Truth :
There good and bad. Deputies are bound to the Sheriff. Officers are bound to the law

Booker Hodges of Bloomington is an example of a very outspoken city PD chief, he calls out criminals like Grady Judd does

“For the people”…. They proceed to treat all people as a revenue stream, just like the PD.

The average tenure of a police chief is 5 years or less. Lookout Frank, here comes all the “Brady” comments from all the people who have no idea what it actually is or how easily you can be placed on it without any due process.

If a sheriff loses an election, do they then become a deputy?

Counties have councils too. Our Chief has every Officers back at our agency and would gladly go against anyone for us. We also don’t have toxic leadership in our office or our City.

The US police model is rotten and corrupt. Why would you elect police? It only opens up for favouritism and corruption.

I watched a video that took place in Coolidge AZ where Sloup violated a individual’s rights by removing firearms from a guys truck because Sloup didn’t believe that someone should have that many firearms in his vehicle traveling through that town. The stop was due to an alleged civil infraction of running a stop sign.

So I don't agree with this. Deputy for 10 years now Chief for 16 through 3 mayor's and numerous council changes & I've always ran it my way. But I like Frank.

I agree with this about the sheriff having certain abilities that chiefs don’t possess. And I agree the sheriff should always remain an elected position. But let’s not pretend that some sheriffs don’t put pressure on the deputies to “support” them. Not all sheriffs are awesome!
