This is the fourth lifeguard this year. I have heard about being sued for doing his job so if they save you from drowning you’re suing because why they didn’t ask permission to save your life first if they don’t step in and save you and you die your family, then sue them for not stepping in. What is itthe people want us to do if you can’t swim and you don’t want a lifeguard to save you stay out of the water it’s that simple what has happened with humanity and society?

He did the right thing. And to be fired after saving someone’s life, not only is it completely stressful trying to save a life, and then to be fired after doing what his job is? I had to give a 9yr kid on my second day life guarding ever, Had to perform CPR, and before ambulance could arrive my older Brother and I did everything we’ve been taught to do and after a couple mins of doing CPR on someone who drowned and had a seizure at the same time, you only have seconds to think and act, and once we cleared the pool area, had everyone within a mile call 911, because we screamed it that loud. By time we had him back boarded and cleared his airway, I checked to see if he had a pulse and was breathing. He had a pulse but wasn’t breathing so I had to clear out his airway, and then begin rescue breathing which is essentially CPR and after giving mouth to mouth two times and pumping his heart, the kids Eyes opened as if he were just born, and he spit up a lot of water 💦 but Thank God we took the classes very serious because one mistake could’ve cost a life. This was Memorial Day 1998, and when the ambulance showed up so did our supervisors and managers. They were so proud of us for doing everything we were taught in such a crucial situation on our second day of life guarding ever, we got a ride home in a limo, we got promoted and a raise all within 2 days. Got to pick which pool we both wanted to work at and manage, and I made more money that summer that it lasted me an easy two years comfortably. This life guard should not be fired, but he should be given whoever fired him, their position and although he knowingly violated such a bad rule, he is a Hero. He acted on someone asking for help, and that’s what lifeguards are supposed to do. Job well done and when you get your commendation award which you very much deserve, don’t turn down that job your offered by the ambulance corporation, you were put on this earth to save lives, take every opportunity that comes to you because you know that your job is doing what you have to do, not the opposite. You deserve not to be fired but promoted. There are some lifeguards that go ten-twenty years w/out saving a soul. Your a hero
