my theory is that because a lesbian relationship doesn't in any way include a man and therefore is inherently against the status quo they need to find a way to make that relationship more "familiar/comfortable" to audiences and they do it by having an unhealthy or predatory dynamic because having a healthy relationship between two women that doesn't involve a man at all makes them uncomfortable.
