@annalisabahadur: When you feel the urge to "fix" your partner’s mood, pause. Ask- "Am I trying to control their emotions to soothe myself?"This interrupts the automatic "rescue" response. Teaches your brain you’re safe even when others aren’t "happy. Instead of assuming ("They’re upset, I must fix it"), ask: "You seem quiet-would you like space, or a listening ear?" This shifts you from control to collaboration. Gives the avoidant agency (reducing their urge to withdraw). You can say: "I care about you, but I can’t absorb your emotions. Let me know how I can support you without losing myself." This protects you from overgiving while modeling healthy interdependence. Agree on small, predictable connections (e.g., a quick debrief after work, a weekly walk). Anxious partners get reassurance; avoidant partners get structure. Builds trust without pressure. When your partner is distant, distract yourself (call a friend, journal, workout) instead of chasing. This teaches your nervous system - "I can endure uncertainty - and connection will return. Which one of these do you think would be easiest to do? . . . . . . . . . . . #RelationshipAdvice #AttachmentStyles #LoveAndRelationships #DatingTips #secureattachment #AnxiousAttachment #avoidantattachment #HealingAttachment #EmotionalIntimacy #HealthyRelationships #LoveAdvice #CoupleGoals #relationshipgoals #AttachmentTheory #DatingAdvice #RelationshipCoach #SelfLove #EmotionalHealing #CommunicationSkills #LoveLanguages #ToxicRelationships #HealingJourney #MindfulDating #RelationshipTips #AnxiousLove #AvoidantLove #SecureLove #LoveYourselfFirst #RelationshipHelp #EmotionalHealth

finally, one where the anxious attachment isn’t painted as a victim! & I say this as an anxious attachment!

anyone ever notice though that an avoidant is always "going through something" that requires them to need space. I'm happy to give space but how long do you give them before you just give up.

It’s ok to give them space! Not everything needs to be solved by you. And if they insist on staying miserable then focus on yourself because you will drown with them otherwise.

I love how asking for a weekend alone after a super stressful week at work is deemed as avoidant 🙄.

This was amazing. As someone who is anxiously attached, I found this extremely helpful!

The crazy thing is that if the avoidant just says “___ happened at work and I just need to have some me time for the weekend, on Monday I’ll take you out for dinner and we’ll have a nice night!” It would be completely solved lmao. Like the lack of communication is what makes both people spiral.

The thing with my avoidant though, is he would want space from ME not his family, or friends, or even other girls. I would spend the whole weekend alone just to find out he still had plans. That’s why it’s personal

life is better when you’re the avoidant and not the anxious; the admired and not the admirer

An anxiously attacked person is my nightmare relationship. If I'm in a bad mood and want to spend the night chilling alone processing and they call me over and over and make it about them.... I'd be out

The most aggravating part is being asked “are you ok” 100 times. I’m fine. I just need to sit in silence for a bit. I’m about to not be ok if you ask me that question again.

Both are wrong imo. The anxious should've given him space, and the avoidant should've been more reassuring.

This is so accurate but also kind of frame the anxious attachment as intentionally causing harm and ignoring boundaries. It doesn’t emphasize the deep fears of abandonment and uncertainty that comes with anxious attachment

As a former anxious no one is wrong or right, they are just both unbalanced. That's all.
I do admit tho that I feel very annoyed by the anxious one, mostly because we get away with being horrible just because we look like the victims. Which we are not.

As an avoidant, being with an anxious attacher is my worst nightmare. That’s so suffocating. Leave me alone

Everyone missing the whole point, I like to say that love only counts when it makes the other person FEEL loved. Love on your own terms is love you show to make yourself feel good, it's for you. Real love is tailored to the love language of the loved one.

The real issue here is avoidant inability to speak openly.

I'd be fine w dating an avoidant if they'd maybe tell me when they needed space instead of just silently seething abt it and it being the reason for the breakup

I think that it’s just harder to not be so anxious like this when you have been thrown away so fast before, it’s such a hard thing to not do

Anyone who needs space in a relationship should be left alone forever! Those who suddenly abandon you without realizing how it would impact the other person deserve no sympathy!

Yes it’s accurate but the avoidant doesn’t actually say that. He does it but the anxious stresses because they don’t know what’s going on.
