HTTD: How’s Simon Doing? UPDATE 1 - Tropical Storm Simon: The Eastern Pacific Basin still remains active to this day, now with the arrival of Tropical Storm Simon about 12 hours ago, keeping nearby Tropical Storm Rachel accompanied throughout this week. The storm is currently a moderate tropical storm; however, it is expected to quickly gain momentum as it moves west at a relatively slow pace and is currently a major hurricane threat towards Southwestern Mexico at this time, in which the NHC projects the storm to become a Category 4 hurricane sometime on Saturday, potentially making landfall in Mexico at that intensity. As of right now, Simon currently has maximum sustained winds of up to 50mph (~80kph) with an estimated central air pressure of 1000mb, moving due west at an approximate speed of 7mph. Simon is currently about 210 miles (~340km) south-southwest from the coasts of the Mexican state of Michoacán, where light thunderstorms are currently present over the region. The NHC expects the storm to continue intensifying throughout today and tomorrow at a more rapid pace than its current rate, in which Simon is projected to become a hurricane by the end of today, with a major hurricane forecast to occur by the middle of Saturday (CST), where the agency has the storm pushing towards Category 4 intensity as it heads north toward the southwestern tip of Mexico, making landfall over the state of Jalisco by Sunday. Forecasting models are currently debating over the potential location for Simon’s first landfall, with a significant amount of models diverting from the NHC’s prediction of its first landfall occurring over the Mexican state of Jalisco, with these models instead indicating an impact over either the states of Nayarit or Sinaloa; however, most models are recognizing the projected route that the NHC currently has on their latest forecast. Meanwhile, rainfall throughout 4 states of Mexico is expected to be between moderate and severe, between 3 and 14 inches depending on location (~75 to 350mm). Future updates coming soon! #fyp #simon #tropicalstormsimon #tropicalstorm #update
