anyone who is disabled (in UK at least) also isn't eligible for a mortgage which adds an extra layer on top. we aren't allowed savings beyond a certain amount either which means instantly no way to save for a deposit. stuck renting

I don’t understand this video. 18k a year in saving is not peanuts. And saving it for 4 years to get a down payment is pretty good. Are people thinking they can get out of high school, get a job and buy a house 3 months later? I don’t get it. Literally what he explained is exactly what people do to get a house. Work, spend wisely, save over time, buy house. I’m confused. 😂 took me 5 years of saving to buy my house.

I can only speak for my household, but you're absolutely right about rent. ours jumped from $1950 to $2400 in one jump! and then these people have the audacity to ask why are you struggling to pay your rent?! idk maybe the $550 increase

I wonder how much of an access to homes would Dave Ramsey have if he had to compete with Blackrock for them.

I have managed to save 50k for a down-payment it took me 5 years to get that, but since my work is considered seasonal on paper work, I can only get a 200k mortgage at best, so the highest i could go is 250k... there is nothing here for that price that isn't 55+ building or with no pet bylaws. I live very minimally, I can't afford a vacation, I stopped going out years ago because I just can't afford to. I work 40+ hour weeks. I am doing everything I can, it's just never enough.

I needed to hear this. I've managed to save a down payment. (took me almost 10 years) but I still can't afford the weekly mortgage, plus taxes, plus home owners insurance, etc etc etc and I feel so silly that I'm still renting!

So, when I hear about American poverty, I realize there's s game being played. I know for a fact that we don't need the American dream on African soil.

i boycotted amazon. I don't buy 5 coffees a week. I buy a box of 100 tea bags every 2 months from costco. My 11 yr old car is fully paid off. My last vacation was in 2004. I still can't afford home ownership.

I can’t buy a home because banks think I can’t afford the mortgage even though it’s less than my rent 😞

Dude, not gonna lie, my hubby and I LUCKED OUT to get the down payment for our 215k fixer upper house. Our mortgage is $1400. We are GRATEFUL it’s that low!! Hubby is growing a garden for us to try to feed us. We both work 40+ hours a week, and he JUST got a good job. We were house poor for the first 2 years we were here, but it was a house. Our car payment is $130~ because I know how to find a deal and a half. We have a dryer that only dries on low and I’m hesitant to replace it.

it takes me 45 mins to ride my bike to work each way & there's a long stretch of highway with no shoulder. I did it once & nearly got hit and noped out of doing it again.

Australia is absolutely unaffordable because the government allows and profits from housing as an investment.

I spent almost 3 grand on an e-bike, and structured my whole life around never needing to own a car. I have no debt, but very little savings. My income isn’t anywhere close to be able to get a home loan I can afford, even with my good credit.

I literally buy the majority of my groceries at the dollar tree, I use monthly bus passes for travel, opt to work at food places for free meals, donate plasma and I’m still short on rent and utilities
