@mikoyaneko: Today we are looking at an AN APG-59, of the first pulse doppler radars ever fitted to a fighter. It was first built in 1963 and is part of the AWG-10 weapon system which replaced the older AN/APQ-72 radar on F-4 phantoms starting with the J model. It operates in X band and has a theoretical max detection range of 110km for bomber sized targets. Being a multi-mode radar, it featured an air-to-air search mode, air-to-ground ranging mode, ground mapping mode and CW illumination for the AIM-7 Sparrow missile along with having a BITE system (built-in test equipment) and look-down capability. The AN/APG-59 along with the AWG-10 were retired in the early 90s. #coldwar #aviationdaily #aviationlovers #aviation #avgeek #viral #fyp #aircraft #History #plane #planes #radar #USA #usairforce #army #soldier #Military #fyp #viral #f4phantom #mikoyan #mig #ussr
