I waited tables back in the mid 90s. Even my fellow black coworkers did not like to wait in a table with black people. Black people and old people were the worst tippers. Sounds like nothing has changed. Sad.

Speaking as a server who has served for 5+ years. THIS IS TRUE. I’ve always stayed calm and collected when I’m serving and omg it’s the hardest when I’m serving black people. I’m not trying to be rude at all but seriously it’s like I’m their slave now when they come in. And the worst part is they do tip poorly, most of the time not at all. Now I will say obviously this does not happen in fine dining but in regular restaurants, good luck. Patience is a virtue.

I was a server for years and I served whoever, no matter the race. But it can be difficult and stressful. I just kept reminding myself, “They won’t be here long…. They’ll be leaving soon” 😳🙄🙄
