Standard safeguarding. If you regularly collect at 4:30, haven’t said otherwise then they will call to check you’re ok. No issue for you to stay until 6 if that’s what’s paid for, but childcare staff get to know their families well and notice differences like this.

I would call the parents as well if they normally come at a specific time. But maybe phrase it differently: heya just checking in. Everything is alright with baby we just wanted to know if you are coming in later than usual today and if everything is alright. Baby is fine we will be happy to keep her until you come pick her up. We’ve definitely had our daycare call if it’s past our usual pick up time, just to make sure everything is ok. I don’t see an issue if it’s unusual for them to be there past that time

This isn’t about being smart, it’s about making sure YOU are okay. If you normally pick up at 4:30 and haven’t said otherwise at drop off we will ring to make sure YOU ARE OKAY. Not sure about the whole making plans thing though, that’s weird.
