This was my frustration visiting Disney Springs! I felt like we were all cos-playing a walkable city. We’ll spend money to visit these places, but won’t work to create them in our own cities and towns.

Robert Davis was also very focused on designing for children. That is why every picket fence is at the eye level of a child and each one is a different design. This helps children navigate to their cottage. Creating porch to picket fence is also so that one could know their neighbor. This is also why the post office is centralized so that eventually walking to the mail to will have a social interaction with a neighbor or visitor.

I took a class on how Seaside and Celebration (Disney town) were developed. It’s funny how different a town feels when the whole thing is planned out and built at once rather than growing organically like all other towns. When we went to Celebration, everything was brand new. All the buildings, street signs, landscaping, etc were pristine which gave it a surreal feeling.

My family has been going to Seaside/Seagrove for generations. My uncle, as a general contractor, built a lot of the houses and buildings. His son is now a builder as well. It’s wild to watch how that whole area has changed but I’m hopeful that it is still setting a good example

I’ve been there and later went to Beachwalk Resort in Michigan City. It’s a copy cat neighborhood in Indiana. We were out walking the neighborhood in February!! It really works if you’re out walking in Indiana in February!

Another fun fact is the business model that co-founder, Daryl Davis implemented that helped many businesses thrive in the town center over the years. She thrived in a time when toursim wasn’t part of the story in that area yet. She began very humble with a Farm stand. Also her very classic style and success with @The Seaside Style.
