This is why mental health counselors are called to the scene AFTER things are rendered safe by police.

obviously not an export on anything here, but I wonder what would have happened if officers didn't engage at all and instead waited for mental health help. yes show up first, and yes make sure its safe and act as a barrier, but maybe dont engage at all?

I understand why it ended the way it did, however since their are 2 officers why wouldn't both be at distance from either side of the door way, that way when the kid came out of the room one of them tackles the kid to the ground while his back is turned. Im not a cop. I'm just wondering if this would have been plausible. Bc I've seen knife disarming by cops in other countries without using deadly force. Im just genuinely curious

Cops did the right thing, it’s tragic for everyone including the cops, no one wants to take a life it’s very traumatic especially when it’s a kid or young adult. Horrible for,the family too, it’s overall bad for everyone. Pple need to know this isn’t taken lightly by anyone but has long term affects on everyone

This is why police should not respond to MH calls. The only way to make sure that the person doesn’t get hurt is if we are not there. Police are put in an impossible situation when responding to calls like this. This is not a criminal complaint, the family should have to deal with it.

Had this been in Cali or Minnesota, you’d have had one less response therapist
