Our parents werent required to be available 24 hours a day so like...good for them? They made it so we have to work this hard to afford to live.

lots of comments with excuses, I'm 32 and can admit our generation is addicted to the phone, don't care what the boomers did/didn't do, we are addicted to them.

My whole life is on my phone, recipes, to do list, buying things for my kids, researching specific parenting things. Don’t shame parents for using their phones sometimes

all these young parents trying to justify the phone obsession, we played in the park with our kids , we did take part in everything, no we didn't read books in parks , we actually talked to people ,a concept that is being lost

Lovely sentiment but let's be honest, there's only so many times we can watch our kid go down a slide before it gets boring. I took mine to parks all the time but I was so bored unless I had other parents to chat with.

My mum and dad would be lucky to even know half the things we did when we were told to “go out and play” and not return until dinner time. They were never there, never present. I 100% agree that our phones are the most distracting thing but the difference in our generations is we actually WANT to be part of our kids lives - it’s the addictive nature of technology and the craziness of the world now/ the busy rush that stops you.

my partner is looking at his phone or computer screen so much I find it so triggering. anytime i say anything tho he just gets irritated so I've given up. he can waste his time looking at screens. I'll be the one watching my baby boy grow.

I’m so sick of this… my parents went on holiday for Xmas and left me and my sister behind one year. Every parent is different, boomers are a different species… we are doing our best stop with the guilt trip…

I get in some instances but what are you and the child gaining from you constantly watching them on the slide?! I’m a sahm to 3 kids and my life is my kids but that also takes over your life and you lose yourself if your constantly doing something with them/watching them on a slide etc

So many people missing the point here. It’s not about being available for work. He admits he wasn’t checking important emails. He just couldn’t resist the pull of the phone.

Your mom…wasn’t my mom. Or a lot of moms & dads. Parents in the comments, you’re doing great too. I promise.

Not every moment with your child is a precious memory that needs to cherished. Sometimes theyre just playing on the swings like they have every weekend for the past 4 years. If youre an actively involved parent, sometimes your allowed to just let them play and we can tune out for a moment.

i totally agree with his mum. and i a grandma now have those same memories. alot of parents are present to their children, its not hard to ignore a phone over a child for everyone.
