There is no such thing as "good grains" for dogs. They are facaltive Carnivores that have no metabolic requirement for carbohydrates. Grains are cheap sources to round out a feed formula on paper and make great fillers. I will say though, that 20lb bag should last as long as a 45lb bag of food. You need to feed half as much, or less. That needs to be factored in the price of the food. This food is about the same price as most of the popular foods that come in the large bags.

I fed my dog Orijen Senior for about 5-6 years. Like you said, too much protein can be detrimental for some dogs. She’s now dealing with kidney disease. Wish my vet could have guided us better about food selection

Fun fact from a vet student: ingredients are put in order based on WEIGHT before processing. So chicken, fish, apples, all look good but once they take all the water out to make it kibble, it's not as much as already dried ingredients that are added like "chicken meal" "fish meal" etc.

Starting feeding Orijen to my Boston when she was a year old. I rotated through the different proteins every new bag. She lived to 16 and was very active to the end…it’s a quality kibble
