i referenced this clip as an example of the gems not necessarily taking steven seriously when he tries asking them questions about serious things, and people keep saying "he wouldve died if it wasnt rigged!!!" like. that isnt the point........? and theyre so close to making a good point about it too, but regardless the trial wasnt meant to be easy for the sake of safety. it was meant to be easy ro boost steven's confidence, which could've easily been accomplished with a real test too.

I don’t think this was him putting their feelings above his. I think a lot of it was him realizing all they do to try to help him, that even if it’s misguided and as amethyst says that they are ‘bad at this’ and so much of their efforts are misguided because of those things, they try really hard. Maybe a bit of it was him masking his frustrations but my interpretation was that he was getting past his more childish feelings of frustration at the surface level aspects of the situation and instead looking at the deeper love and effort they give to him despite no one ever teaching them how and them never having been made for this. Plus he even hears them say that they believe in him, that it’s just his confidence that is getting in the way. Now I’m also not making excuses for them because as we see in Steven universe future they put a lot of their baggage on him and it has a severe impact. I just think this wasn’t an episode where they were.
