It’s much different now. You have failed “artists” from other genres making “country” music because it’s the only place they can make it. Not to mention, they are using R&B and rap beats in music. When were we doing that before?

Yeah but this is different. People are cosplaying country singer like they were cosplaying rappers in the 90s and 2000s. Both genres are built on authenticity and this plague of trend chasers is shallow and fake and is actually damaging the culture. When it was happening to rap they rightfully called it cultural appropriation and must've been infuriating for people actually from that culture but we're supposed to just embrace people putting on a costume and faking an accent to sing about country culture that they know nothing about?

Whatever you want to call it, if it doesn’t have a steel guitar, telecaster, and fiddle…or a sincere singer with an acoustic guitar…it’s not my kind of country. Support the music you love is all that matters. I don’t have to listen to what is promoted as “country” and you don’t either. We finally have the freedom and resources to listen to whatever we choose.

While I agree with this premise, it’s always been pretty discernible from “pop” despite having some pop elements (ETC had a pop sound, but was undeniably country). I do not think that was the case post-Cruise, pre-Stapleton.

It comes down the the honky tonks. No matter what happened, country music made folks dance or sit around a festival and chill. Since Garth it’s been stadium and that is anti-honky tonk. Folks who use this as an excuse sound like the Christians who say “if I don’t sin He didn’t die for anything.” We want sincerity more than authenticity.

I'm from L.A., CA and I would always hear about SPADE COOLEY. Very tragic...BUT his contribution to the genre can't be ignored. If you've ever heard that western swing background music for Woody's Roundup of Toy Story. A sound that was inspired by performers like "Riders In The Sky" (whom actually helped in the soundtrack), actually helped introduce many a young folk to the style. That's the sound Spade Cooley conveyed. Much love and respect all around. ✌️😎
