schools are scared because a few students have recorded abuse and bullying by the teacher. several students have used their phones to prove that a teacher lied about somthing the teacher said or did, can't remember the specifics...that student was about to be expelled possibly ruining their future, all because the teacher was proven wrong by the pupil, so the teacher made it sound like the pupil was being aggressive disrespectful and threatening...the recording was played proving the teacher lied but the student was still suspended. so the pupils parents took it to the media...all because the teachers ego was bruised.

You’re missing the point. Im 15 and don’t think we should have phones in lessons. I would just spend the whole time distracted, and im quite good when it comes to this sort of thing. If we need to text parents then we can just ask a teacher

Secondary teacher here. Please let schools decide what's right for them. In my school, the rule is no phones out unless under teacher instruction. We can manage that, and I am able to use phones for educational purposes as and when I need to. I don't need a law taking away my agency as a professional.

Education system is corrupt - staying in education until 18 isn’t for everyone. To go into uni etc yeah. But for most careers you don’t need education. Going to the extent of banning phones isn’t a good idea. They should be teaching students how to utilise technology safely and properly. It’s not going away is it so why even bother ?

I think phones shouldn’t be banned. There should be rules yes but I think it’s ok to use them during break time. I was someone who was alone almost all of the time during break and because phones weren’t allowed in my school during break I had to go into the bathrooms just so I could speak with my mother to keep me company.

Maybe teach the students when not to use the phones and how to appropriately use them instead of jst taking them away? Especially when I use my phone in class to help with research, learning, etc.

a girl in my sisters school was severely beaten and thrown intk a road by a group of girls, that group a few weeks later returned trapping her in the toilets not letting her leave or else they’d do it again. The girl in the stall called her dad hysterically crying to come help her and get her from school. the following day she was punished for using her phone EVEN in an emergency (she’s small and very defenceless - there were 6-8 girls)
