280hp with 3600lbs it wasn’t fast by any means. The mazdaspeed 3 just outperformed it. Awd was cool but compared to a Wrx or sti the speed6 was way too heavy to compete stock for stock. S4? That’s a bold statement

Then they said, let’s give it an egr system that clogs the valves, lets give it injector seals that fail, lets give it poor functioning pcv. Love this engine but it’s got issues….

They gave this thing a turbo, AWD, a 6-speed, forged internals, AND a limited-slip diff… then said nothing. Mazda went full overkill, and barely told anyone.

That’s because it wasn’t really a performance car, more like a sport-tourer that offered a significant amount of performance. I think on paper it looks like it’s in the same bracket as the evo or sti. When in reality, it might’ve been better compared to the Audi a4, m3, or TL-S of the era.

This was my biggest lemon. Engine failed around 18k miles, they replaced. And it went through 3 axles. Drove it hard, was young, but, it just couldnt handle it.
