This is the part of starting a service-based business that can make you panic. Someone expresses interest. You have a conversation. Maybe you send a quote. And then… silence. It is incredibly tempting to assume they changed their mind because they didn’t like your price, your service, or something about you. Don’t make that assumption. People forget. Their schedules get crazy. The timing changes. Your message gets buried. Sometimes they simply don’t have the same urgency you do because they’re not the one who needs the income. So don’t give up when the conversation gets quiet. Follow up. A warm lead is someone who has already expressed some level of interest in what you offer. You’re not randomly pitching a stranger. You’re simply giving them another opportunity to say yes. And in my own experience, about half of the warm leads I follow up with have turned into actual work. That’s work I would have missed if I had simply assumed their silence meant no. Don’t turn someone else’s silence into a story about your worth. Follow up. The answer might still be no—and that’s okay.
