100% the right choice, my best friend passed away a year ago hiking through snow with a group (while using crampons), she slipped and fell a considerable distance. Know your skill level, risk assess and have the right gear ❤️

You made the right choice! Idk if the route is out&back but without crampons/spikes, hiking up is one thing - hiking down is an entirely new challenge. As disappointing as it may feel in the moment, you saved yourself from unnecessary danger
