I love my parents and I know they care for me, but I can't keep them informed about my life without being met with criticism. I wish I could be close with them and tell them everything but they just make me more anxious and less self confident

Yep. My parents are wonderful people and I’ve lived a priveleged, lucky existence. And our relationship works best when they are only informed of surface level details and things after the fact. The thought of going to my parents for advice is very foreign to me.

1. If I share a problem, I don’t get support, I get a project manager, a task list, requests for progress reports and unsolicited feedback. 2. If share anything, it’s not listened to properly, it’s interpreted incorrectly, blabbed about endlessly far and wide and then I have to go around correcting the misinformation. 3. ALL problems are my fault and my responsibility. So sharing ends up being not only unsafe emotionally, but a massive hassle
