This incident reminds me of my mother. She would say something hurtful and then blame me if I called attention to the hurtful comment. If I objected then I was the villan. There were times her gaslighting ended up lasting over months. The pattern was similar in that they came out of nowhere.

It is very rude and humiliating for her to say that in front of the kids. My ex-husband was the same and he blurted out many hurtful and hateful things in front of my kids.

my first wife did that stuff daily. I lasted ten years somehow. in the 1980s i was a startup self employed carpenter makeing like 80,000 a year. she would tell me to get a real job. today I'm a millionaire living at the beach. she killed herself long time ago.
