I have a question though, I’m Australian so our police are there to protect us but with everything that’s going on in the USA now with ur armed forces, ICE and everything else, can u honestly teach ur kids that the police are there to help them when they are probably seeing otherwise

I can't stand that either...ppl calling wanting us to send an officer to scare their kids into behaving....I tell them no, that officers WANT kids to approach them if needed NOT be scared of them.

I absolutely agree with that! Teach your kids to be good. PERIOD. and don’t get them thinking the police are the bad or out to get them.

So true !! And the same with nurses & health care professionals ! Please stop threatening your child while waiting in the ED or any physicians office, etc…that if they don’t stop misbehaving the “nurse is gonna come out and give you a big needle in your behind”… this literally creates a lifelong fear of any care provided by nurses and Drs. White coats, uniforms, etc. send kids into panic/meltdown mode even later in life & often they’ll forego going to see a physician because they’re still terrified of them and then they find out they should’ve gone months before …

100% agree. Whenever I had my nieces and nephews with me I taught them to say hello, be caeful, be safe to police officers because if you ever need help they're the ones you'll go to. ☺️

My son literally had to sit and talk to a police officer about why he has to hand over his drivers license when he is pulled over before he was allowed to take his drivers test

Awesome post!! So true… I hear so many people doing this with their children. It does instill fear of LEOs. I taught mine to of course, respect, comply and listen. But mostly that law enforcement was the safe zone. Just my view.

You are so right. I represented abused and neglected children whose parents told them if they didn’t behave that the cops would be called and would take them away. The police saved so many of my client’s lives.

So funny story for the flip side of this. My son is friends with all the law enforcement in town. He has many of their personal cell numbers. I pulled a prank on him and moved his truck while he was at church. Then realized I had to fess up quickly because he was about to call the chief at home 🤦‍♀️

do you think this fear-based parenting around police is part of a bigger issue-like how society teaches kids to fear authority rather than understand it?

I love that you bring this up. It’s so important. I had a scary experience and the two officers who helped me went above and beyond with helping me. The one even fed my cat. I was so moved by the kindness. I respect what you guys do so much! I think being a childcare provider I need to teach this too. 🙏🏻💙❤️

TRUTH!!! Years ago, I was on a ride-along with my brother. Same thing happened to my brother, but it was an aunt who said that to her niece and nephew. My brother schooled her on the spot and told the kids, your aunt is joking and it’s not a funny joke. You can always feel comfortable to come us when something happens to you that’s not right. The aunt laughed as she tried to flirt with my brother, which annoyed me, and I told her - my brother’s married and you’re not his type. My brother laughed and said we’re out of here. 🤣

There are worse addictions than Mike N Ike's!! My granddaughters love them too! Agree fully on your rant. Too much fear surrounding the police. Nowadays we need to teach police equals safety. Schools should have officers speak with kids as early as kindergarten.

Everyone needs to hear this and share. I have heard this before. My mom taught me that the police are for protection and a safe place. I work in a doctor's office, and parents do the same thing with children and doctors. If your not good they will give you a shot. I am real quick to let them know that is not going to happen. The doctor is there to help, not hurt! Thank you and Zeke for all you do!

I heard a parent say that to a child, probably 9 or 10 years old. Coming from a family of law enforcement in the past, I was totally blown away. I instantly corrected that parent and told him why, explaining that law enforcement was there to help, not hinder. I just don't understand some people!

I do say that to my son, but he is 23 and always says he’ll “take me down with him” or he will shout loudly “you’ll never take me alive copper” as he slow motion runs right by the officer 😂. We started being silly when he was little because we lived in a small town where we all knew each other. The town LEO always played along
