Sam's club is the same thing just a little more hidden. but in the bottom left of the sign next to the item number it will have an A,C or and O A means active (means more is being ordered continuously), C means canceled or clearance (means getting rid of it) O means one time buy ( a new product that they are seeing how it sells so it could turn into an A) then there are colors of the signs ( yellow means instant savings, the price is cut down). White is normal green used to mean organic but I'm pretty sure they changed that and blue is new but it's nothing important. When some products go on C that have displays like TVs and it's the last one they sell the display for very cheap.

I worked for Costco for 7 years and the asterisk is just a sign for employees what needs to be restocked soon, no meaning to customers. The .99,.97,.00 etc doesnt mean it’s been marked down, just its price like any other store. 😂

The * just means there are no more open orders for that item and you may not see it again until the buyer makes a new commitment on the item, usually next year. You will always see these on seasonal items
