Im jot sure it was ever told to me to live like that, i think it was more observational. I tried very hard to not push that stuff on my son or my doughter. also like walking on the outside on a side walk to be between traffic and your wife.

Look, ignore all that. Let’s get back to why you think those rules exist, why they matter to you, what they mean to you, and how you choose to “enforce” them with your son. For example, you broke your son’s umbrella, you didn’t talk with him about it or give him a choice. Because isn’t he allowed to choose, too.
