@watchmegetripped: Premier Protein is popular for convenience and high protein content, but it has several red flags that make it subpar—especially for people focused on gut health, clean eating, or recovery from bariatric surgery. Here’s why: ⸻ ⚠️ 1. Artificial Sweeteners Premier Protein uses sucralose and acesulfame potassium (Ace-K). These: • Disrupt the gut microbiome. • May increase sugar cravings and insulin resistance. • Can cause bloating or GI distress in sensitive individuals. ⸻ ⚠️ 2. Ultra-Processed Ingredients Its formula includes: • Artificial flavors • Thickeners like carrageenan or cellulose gel • Stabilizers and gums (gellan gum, etc.) These additives are highly processed and can irritate the gut lining or cause inflammation. ⸻ ⚠️ 3. Poor Protein Quality While it boasts 30g of protein, it’s mostly from milk protein concentrate, a cheaper, less bioavailable source than high-quality whey isolate or hydrolyzed protein. ⸻ ⚠️ 4. Low Nutrient Density Premier Protein shakes may contain synthetic vitamins, but they lack: • Whole food ingredients • Digestive enzymes or prebiotics • Healthy fats or fiber to balance absorption and satiety ⸻ ⚠️ 5. Not Bariatric or Gut-Friendly For bariatric patients or people healing their gut: • The combination of artificial sweeteners, thickeners, and cheap proteins can stall healing. • The lack of supportive ingredients like collagen, probiotics, or MCTs makes it more of a filler than fuel. ⸻ ✅ Better Alternatives: • Homemade shakes with grass-fed protein powder, nut butter, collagen, or Greek yogurt. • Brands with clean ingredients like Truvani, Equip, Be Well by Kelly, or Just Ingredients. ⸻ Bottom line: Premier Protein is convenient, but it’s more of a processed diet shake than a healing or nourishing food. If you’re prioritizing muscle repair, gut health, or post-op recovery, cleaner options will serve you much better.

Well Honey I'm trying to stop 🛑 the food noise. Today was my 1st time trying it. I got the latte. I mean I get it. but I also get that some of us don't want to feel deprived and STILL have that same feeling of having something tasty.

I think it has its place. For someone like me that is fighting food addiction, these babies help me stay full longer and also satisfy my sweet tooth. I don’t think these should be a permanent staple in most people’s lives though, more temporary

So it has high protein making it a protein shake, the only thing that makes you gain weight is excess calories, sweeteners and other things have a low impact on gut health unless sensitive to the ingredients.

then they need to stop recommending it for bariatric patients bc I've had several friends have that surgery and their doctors tell them to take it. so if we can believe doctors ...then what.

I’ve got a bunch of it on a shelf in my closet. The nutritionist recommended it, but it reeked havoc on my stomach and made me so dehydrated. Thanks for the Greek yogurt, peanut butter powder, and fruit ideal!🩷

That stuff is terrible for you and the doctors/hospital recommended for my husband that had cancer. I knew then that doctors don't know anything about nutrition.

This is fantastic. I just stumbled upon one of your post this morning. Been in the kitchen all day and stumbled upon this one tonight. Keep doing what you’re doing. The healthy pie experience needs more people like you in it’s corner. 😉
