You can be vegan and eat protein. Focus on lentils, beans, legumes, tofu and less processed soy. It sounds like she just wasn't eating properly in general.

She didn’t have to eat all that tho. I’m vegan, exercise 4 - 5 times a week, get 110+ grams of protein everyday and still I’m on a calorie deficit of 1600 - 1700 calories max daily. It’s possible

Yeah don’t solely rely on fake meat and carbs for protein if you’re vegan! Seems like she needed more Whole Foods in her diet - tofu tempeh, seitan, beans, lentils, broccoli, mushrooms, nutritional yeast are where it’s at, protein bars and mock meats are just addons

Real. Vegan isn’t for everyone despite what they’ll tell you. When I was vegan (or plant based as they like to tell ex vegans) I struggled a lot with the volume of food I had to eat to meet my nutritional goals. The high volume/fiber and alternative of fake meats both messed with my sensitive gut. So I ate SO much tofu to get my protein which I actually enjoyed.. but then doing that gave me a soy allergy 😅
