Are you sure that’s the best way? I’m genuinely (truly and honestly bc I’ve never studied that) asking out of curiosity because my kids are older— 7 and nearly 10. I’ve had SLPs working with me my whole life, then with my children their whole lives. We’ve found “let’s go to sleep so that we’re rested to have fun. If we can’t sleep by [this time], that means we need more rest which is more important than unsafe swimming” (obviously a very different age group) but it used to feel like I was giving into my kids if I knew they would stay up once I said that. I’m still working out sleep schedules since my son has apraxia and gets extra tired when he has to speak more and his sister gets tired because she’s annoyed translated 4 different ways for him when they’re together on vacations. I never give her that obligation, but she does it. If I tell them that we’re doing something fun tomorrow and lay out what we have to do in the morning and say they can’t do it if they don’t stop pestering each other, then they start figuring out ways to get to sleep quickly while communicating to each other their needs. We’ve been doing that for about 6 years. Is that bad for them? Am I not communicating to them well and not teaching them what to say? I’m sorry this became a whole essay but I barely get to talk to slps these days.
