I didn't really like Death note, but I feel like I just watched it way later in life than most people have and I was just a little grown up to appreciate it. Not to say you have to be immature or anything, theres just some media that doesn't hit as hard unless you're a teenager or young adult when you see it for the first time. Donnie Darko is the only other example I can think of.
