I book the middle seat a lot because I know people who think they are clever for this trick, I wait at the back of the queue and laugh when I walk on seeing their faces

This worked for me and my wife last year on the way to our holiday. The return flight however too many people so we ended up switching with the random person so they weren’t sat between us. So yes it works and no it doesn’t

It's a great idea.. If someone turns up for middle seat you ask to swap with them and they definitely would because who wants to sit in between 2 strangers.

a lot of airlines won't allow you to do that unless you book two separate tickets. they are on to us. 😂

I absolutely love this, I always book a middle seat and occasionally strike lucky. I always intentionally board at the last moment when such people are at the maximum smugness. The look on their faces is an absolute treat as I approach closer to my seat, the middle seat. Yes, the icing in the cake is, I’m 23st weight

Yeah right, travelling alone and have more than one time ended up inbetween couples that thought they were smart. Happy to trade for windowseat though.
