Thank you for this. My non-binary daughter. Is fine with her close family using the term non-binary daughter/sister/granddaughter/niece when we talk about them to others. Some people have scolded me for using it and said it can’t be what she wants. We are a very open family and they said it feels right because they have always had those “titles” with close family and have always been respectful of them being non-binary.

As long as Robin is comfortable with it, why does it matter? The whole point of nonbinary is it’s outside of gender norms, if every nonbinary person used the same labels and language, it kinda defeats the whole concept of the identity

I’m non binary (AFAB) and I’m fine with the label of girlfriend, like you said I like being able to celebrate my queerness. Every non binary person will feel differently about labels. And not every enby person is agender- which a lot of people think enby is!!!

My daughter’s girlfriend is genderfluid. When they started dating, they had a discussion about what terms to use. They landed on girlfriend. If that changes at some point, I’ll change my language.

My daughter's partner is transmasc, but a giant part of my daughter's identity is being a lesbian so they've negotiated how her partner gets gendered and the current safe space comments (which will change when they actually get married) are usually boyfriend in a lesbian way.
