“God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM.’ And He said, ‘Say this to the people of Israel: I AM has sent me to you.’” — Exodus 3:14 When God revealed Himself to Moses at the burning bush, He didn’t give Moses a title, a role, or a label — He gave Him His being. “I AM WHO I AM” in Hebrew is “Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh” — it can also mean: • I will be who I will be • I am the Self-Existent One • I am always present This was not just a name — it was a revelation. ⸻ God Is Self-Existent God doesn’t depend on anyone or anything to exist. He doesn’t become — He is. He exists outside of time, space, and creation. Everything we see is contingent — it has a beginning and end. But God has no beginning and no end. “Before the mountains were born or You brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting You are God.” — Psalm 90:2 ⸻ God Is Always Present “I AM” means He is here. Right now. Not “I was,” not “I will be,” but I AM — eternally present in your past, present, and future. “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” — Psalm 46:1 No matter where you are or what you’re going through, He is. He is with you. He is near. He is enough. ⸻ Jesus Claimed This Name When Jesus said “I AM,” the religious leaders tried to stone Him — because He was declaring He is God. “Before Abraham was, I AM.” — John 8:58 They picked up stones to stone Him… (v. 59) Throughout the Gospel of John, Jesus uses seven “I AM” statements to reveal who He is: 1. I AM the Bread of Life (John 6:35) 2. I AM the Light of the World (John 8:12) 3. I AM the Door (John 10:9) 4. I AM the Good Shepherd (John 10:11) 5. I AM the Resurrection and the Life (John 11:25) 6. I AM the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6) 7. I AM the True Vine (John 15:1) Each statement was a divine revelation, declaring that Jesus was not just sent by God — He is God. ⸻ What This Means for Us Because He is I AM, we don’t have to be. • We don’t have to be strong enough — He is. • We don’t have to have all the answers — He does. • We don’t have to carry it all — He already did.
