Not only was her hairstyle iconic. It was so iconic that they actually had to ask her to change it because women working in factories during World War II we’re getting injured mimicking her hairstyle.

Veronica Lake is probably remembered as much for her peekaboo hairstyle as for her (to my mind) wooden acting. Sadly, her success was limited to few movies before alcoholism put an end to it. However much a boor, Fredric March had a long and successful career spanning over 3 decades, including great turns in The Best Years of Our Lives, Seven Days in May, and Inherit the Wind. With two Academy Awards, March is hardly a “footnote in Hollywood history .” Preston Sturgess and Joel McCrea, who worked with her on Sullivan’s Travels, both found her difficult, Eddie Bracken and Brian Donlevy similarly disparaged her. The idea that she became “iconic” is ludicrous. She had a very brief career which peaked before she turned 30.
