I was told as a child that they also used to let goats and sheep eat from the roofs sometimes, which I have fully believed since I grew up in a smaller town with many of these sod roofs where I saw many goats on top of the roofs. I remember, as a child, climbing on top of my neighbors house because there were blueberries growing on his roof that I secretly plucked and ate.

the vikings first used it as camouflage against enemy planes so it would be hard for them to attack from the shy. Thats why we never hear about a viking dying from an air attack

When I was a child I saw a village with roofs like this, with goats on the roofs! (they put them there so they can "cut" the grass and eat tree saplings). I loved it! So since then I have planned to have this on my roof one day, with goats! 😊
