Not to oversimplify, but once you budget long enough (I’m sure you have), I found it easier to just focus on tracking Savings/Investing vs detailed spend tracking

people do not like this but combining finances does not work for me and my husband! we will zelle request each other for a shared expense which i knows horrifies people. we maintain our own budgets and have combined savings goals

I work in Finance so I totally get not wanting to nix your spreadsheet. I maintain both that and utilize an app. Copilot is the best one out there.

One major checking acct for bills. Auto deposit paychecks and set up as many bills as you can on autopay. Other accts for savings and one for spending.

Honestly we had to stop putting so much on the credit cards, not because we were overusing but because it was too many accounts to keep track of and balance. Now we use our combined checking for 80% of finances and then the CCs for larger purchases but less transactions

We have both finacnes combined together and we don’t budget each other. Our goal is each month we must put six to seven K back into investments that’s it.

That’s what I was gonna comment. I currently use a app, but I don’t think I track it as much as I would if it was manual 😬

I had to turn away from the apps. I would get too obsessed to the point of checking multiple times a day, each time giving myself more and more anxiety. Using an excel sheet allowed for it to only live on my computer and not have instant access. I’ve been working through my trauma of financial scarcity and have finally been able to give up the control of managing finances, my SO now handles them. It’s been hard to let go but also so liberating. (I still have a basic knowledge of what is going on but no longer responsible for making sure everything gets paid and there is money to pay it.)

YNAB isn’t automatic…it does learn and assign but you have to approve it. Either way, I would have him give you receipts and then reconcile to his login info.

I track all of our expenses instead of me and my husband doing it because I'm the one who does the majority of spending

I also use a spreadsheet, my husband and I got a joint acct recently... and I think it will be too chaotic to try and do his finances and mine at the same time. I love tracking everything!! He doesn't.

I use Qube as my bank and budget manager. I can definitely relate to the avoiding the app aspect but I can only have so many expenses uncategorized at a time or my card will literally start declining so it forces me to manage my budget at all times.

I don’t use an app. I actually use Quicken with a YNAB philosophy. Every dollar gets a job and I have 25+ sinking funds. We have one joint checking account and one joint savings account.
