The original Jews—descendants of Jacob (Israel)—were a Semitic, melanated people (Jeremiah 8:21; Lamentations 5:10; Song of Solomon 1:5). Over time, especially after the Roman destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD, many fled into Africa, while others remained or were scattered into Europe.
