People following 20k service intervals and ragging them from cold, flooring it from low down revs or in high gear instead of downshifting...probably most affected ones . Frequent oil changes are a must. I use 5w40 too. Do M50d oil pump to help oil pressure, new bearings and chain around 100k miles and give yourself peace of mind. Best car Ive owned they just need looking after😎

i’ve a 30d, just as bad with bottom ends? chain is sweet not long done a rocker cover and no slack at all, stressing about the bottom end bearings and oil pump packing in tho. this mostly the 35ds and 40ds?

My 330d is on 102k no chain rattle or knocking whatsoever it runs perfect. I never rag it when cold service it every 6k it’s been faultless. Never had any issue with any bm that I’ve had they’ve all been sweet that’s why I’ll keep buying them. And they drive brilliantly way better than any Audi or merc imo.

we have an N57 on 170k, mapped to 380bhp on standard rods and crank and it's driven to destruction and it's still magical

badly serviced n57s give trouble. mines has 130k miles on her. and is quite as a mouse. bmw service is 15k oil changes. do them at 7k. no bother

Iv 3 n57 engines replaced all replaced under warranty from the same garage, all rod knock and turbo failure . Fingers crossed 40 k on its still all good. Serviced every 5 k miles to try keep reliability up👌👍

I'd a 2015 n57 January 2015 registered bought it in may 2016 with 109k I serviced it every 9k to 10k only issues I had was camshaft pully sold it 6 years later with 550k

Just do your service every 9-10.000 you will be fine , 130.000 km 730d no issues at all 👍✅
