You didn’t explain the entire reason they made the Village. It’s not “they were all professors and psychologists”. Edward recruited everyone from a grief counseling center. ALL had lost loved ones to violence. They wanted to create a Utopia to protect their loved ones from ever having to experience that kind of pain.

Since they had little access to antibiotics and other common medicines, it is also possible that Noah suffered from an extremely high fever as a child, which caused his disabilities. This happened to my cousin as a child.

Noah’s parents don’t refer to him as an “animal”. They exclaim, “oh no, the animals!” as the realisation dawns that Noah can escape the room and had been impersonating the monsters, killing and leaving animal corpses around the village.
