@nestbyjess: Why are curtains SO EXPENSIVE??? For Part 6 of my 1865 Victorian Living Room makeover, I needed some curtains for my drafty stained glass windows and I was torn between making my own, or purchasing ones ready made. Since ready made ones are so expensive, I decided to go the DIY route. BUT… was it worth it??? While the cost of the project was under $10 (I already had the fabric, so I just needed more thread), it also took me five whole days of sewing to finish this project. The bulk of the time was spent creating the pinch pleat header for the curtain panels. It was tedious, but they look amazing! Another big time factor was training the curtain panels, something that custom curtain makers will do for you. My verdict on the custom curtain vs. DIY curtain question: if you’re set on the pinch pleat look (and let’s be honest: you should be!), custom curtains are ACTUALLY worth it! I’m not saying never take on a DIY curtain project, but the time and effort should be something to consider! What do you think??
