Candy can also be a way to get lots of energy really fast. As a diabetic, sometimes our bodies need the fast energy you get from things like candy.

my daughter was about that age when someone told her fruit snacks aren't healthy and I went from having a reliable nonperishable snack in my purse to her never eating them again.

and I love looping happiness in as part of being healthy. it might help be the seed of looking at their mental health as part of their overall health in the future.

Food has no moral value! I tell my kids that some foods are fun and make us happy, some nourish us, some heal us, but we need a balance of all of that 🫶🏻

My mil tells my daughter she’s just not a big eater - lifelong undiagnosed eating disorder. I tell my daughter we eat for all kinds of reasons. We are hungry, we are celebrating, we need nutrients,

They way I had to go to *war* with my kid's school to make this point, and make them stop trying to control her lunches. A *7yo,* if you can believe it

My kid has ARFID and when he came home in kindergarten one day he was in tears because he was told a lot of the food he will eat isn’t healthy. He was devastated and I so frustrated how they teach that black and white thinking so early on.

My kids always ask “is this good for you?” And we brainstorm what it’s good for together (meats good for muscles, candy makes your heart happy). Every food has a purpose!

I remember a substitute teacher in kindergarten leaning in telling my class while we were sat on the mat that she loves crossiants but only eats a croissant once a year on Christmas because they are so bad for you and she cares about health. Crazy that I remember it so clearly and crazier that I still think about it as an adult when offered a croissant 😳

I LOVE THIS SO MUCH!! I might send it to my kids’ principal, I can’t stand how the push outdated ideas of “healthy food” onto the kids.

candy is also such a wide group, like a chocolate bar with peanuts in it literally has protein. and anything with real fruit in it literally does have nutritional value

The only bad food is food you are allergic to or food that has spoiled. This took me a LOT of unlearning to internalize.

Candy also can help a diabetic person out of a low blood sugar emergency, can help a person exercising have a little energy, and sour candy can help avoid a panic attack! And m and ms used to help me focus through my late night class in college which is kinda healthy haha

I feel like everything is a yes and no. Eat one apple, it’s healthy. Only eat apples, you won’t have enough nutrients to keep you going. So everything needs to be balanced.

we phrase food in regards to energy. different foods give diff energy. candy is a quick little hit, but doesn't help you grow. proteins grow you strong. etc. but that all energy is good and has it's own place in our diets.

My 3 year old always asks “mommy, what does *** do for my body?” And sometimes I reply, “it makes our hearts happy!” Love this as someone who suffered from eating disorders for 15 years

Sheesh… my inner child thanks you, and so does this grown woman who still feels so polarized when looking at foods because of how i grew up dieting and being sent to fat camps. Now I have a toddler and I want her to love food and her body. Immediate follow 🤗💖
